First Workings in New York Daily News

First Workings was recently featured in the New York Daily News, “New York needs a Rooney Rule: Here’s how to make hiring fairer to blacks”, a byline written by our Founder and Chairman, Kevin Davis. 

Despite having to make changes to our typical summer programming, we are thrilled to continue serving 48 talented high school students through online professional skills workshops, and virtual mentorships this summer. As the article states, “To create equitable opportunities and equalize the makeup of companies, New York should legally compel corporations to interview diverse candidates, from prospective interns to candidates for board seats.” We look forward to continuing our work of helping students who are underserved and underrepresented acquire social capital and broaden their horizons – while making strides towards racial parity in the workplace.
