FIRST WORKINGS HOSTS UK VACCINATION MINISTER AT VIRTUAL FUNDRAISER BENEFITING HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS FROM UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES
NEW YORK – June 7, 2021 – This week, First Workings will host a virtual fundraising event with the United Kingdom’s Minister for COVID Vaccine Deployment and Business and Industry, Nadhim Zahawi MP. The event will raise money to support professional development services for high-achieving youth from underserved and underrepresented communities in New York City.
On Wednesday, June 9 from 5:30 – 7 p.m. EDT, attendees will join an interactive conversation with Mr. Zahawi about his experience overseeing the ongoing vaccine rollout across the United Kingdom where almost 75% of the adult population has now had a first vaccine dose.

“After devastating effects on both public health and the global economy in the past year, we are eager to hear Mr. Zahawi’s unique perspective as the United Kingdom’s first Vaccine Minister and his experience as Minister of Business and Industry,” said Kevin Davis, founder and executive director of First Workings. “This intersection of business and public service is core to the First Workings mission of connecting students with social capital and erasing financial barriers to professional opportunities.”
Attendees will also hear from First Workings student alumni and mentorship and internship providers about the importance of workforce development and how companies can diversify the talent pipeline by investing in workplace readiness training, virtual mentorships and paid summer internships.
This event is open to the public and tickets can be purchased here. All funds from ticket sales will directly benefit First Workings’ mission to help build social capital for students from underrepresented communities through professional skills training, paid internships and one-on-one mentorships.
